Adult immunizations available through the health department include:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningitis
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap)
  • Influenza (Flu)

Foreign Travel: The Division of Nursing provides information and referrals concerning immunizations for travel to foreign countries.

Diabetes Support Group meetings are held the last Wednesday of the each month unless otherwise announced in local media.

Illinois Tobacco-Free Communities Program

Provides educational programs for schools and groups on smoking and its harmful effects. Under this program tobacco cessation aids are available to those seeking help in their efforts to stop tobacco use.

Also a part of this program is the Smoke-free Illinois Act. Effective January 1, 2008, the Smoke-free Illinois Act prohibits smoking in virtually all public places and workplaces, including offices, theaters, museums, libraries, educational institutions, schools, commercial establishments, enclosed shopping centers and retail stores, restaurants, bars, private clubs and gaming facilities.

Vision & Hearing Screenings

A technician employed by the Health Department conducts vision and hearing screenings. Vision screenings are done for preschool, kindergarten, grades 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, teacher referrals and special education. Hearing screenings are done for preschool, kindergarten, grades 1, 2, 3, teacher referrals and special education. Children identified as having possible hearing or vision problems are referred to medical professionals for further testing and treatment.

Communicable Disease, STD's, and HIV/AIDS

MCHD nurses, according to IDPH guidelines, investigate these diseases and reports are then sent to the State. MCHD also provides education, counseling, and is a resource for these programs.
